Made up of four OVAs, it tells the story of Chinatown's (somewhere in America, I
believe) most mysterious pet shop and owned by the even more mysterious Count D. It's guaranteed to get you the
pet you've always wanted, but the consequences of having that pet are often more than you can bear...and an
enthusiastic cop, Leon, is right on the tail of the strange happenings that always seem to surrround the pet shop.
OVA 1 [Daughter] - A couple loses their precious daughter and in their desperation, buys a 'rabbit'
from the pet shop, hoping it can ease their pain.
OVA 2 [Delicious] - After a freak accident on a ship where a bride dies on her wedding day, the
devastated bridegroom is offered a new pet that is guaranteed to make him happy again.
OVA 3 [Despair] - A one-hit-wonder actor is now languishing as a has-been. Unable to escape from his filmic
persona, he buys a reptilian pet after another, until he acquires the most exotic of them all.
OVA 4 [Dual] - The Kirin is said to have the ability to make kings of men. And when a potential
presidential candidate and his assistant comes knocking on the pet shop, even Count D has to relent, for the Kirin chooses its own master. |

COMMENTS |
: |
What I personally LOVE most about this series, is its moral message. Yes, it's about horror
and tragedy and twisted beauty, but at the heart of every story (or OVA in this case), there is some sort of
revelation about human nature that I think is worth all your watching. I like watching anime that gives me somethig to mull over. |

MAIN CHARACTERS |
: |
Since this is a review on the OVAs, only two main characters need to be known. The others are just side characters. |
| |
|
|
 |
|
COUNT D. He's the seductive, charismatic, sultry, dangerous, sweet-toothed
(and the list goes on) owner of said pet shop. Basically, he finds a pet that will suit a particular customer,
tells them the rules, and sells the pet. |
| |
|
|
 |
|
LEON ORCUT. The enthusiastic and disbelieving cop who is practically obsessed about the
strange cases that are connected to the pet shop. Along the way, he forms a rather tensed and strange friendship with the Count. |

MANGA DETAILS |

Number of volumes : 10
Status : Complete
The manga is most definitely better fleshed out than the OVAs, naturally. Each volume is a collection of
four stories of terror and wonder, each involving a different creature ('pet'). |

ANIMATION |
: |
Brilliant! I thought they did the mystical aspects of the storyline really well. I mean,
everything looks so fantastical, gothic and dream-like too, sometimes. Ah, the animation also nailed the ominous
and very creepy mood of the OVA. -.- I was afraid to watch at some parts.

VOICE-ACTING |
: |
Seki Toshihiko has never been better as Count D! It shocked my boots off when I found
out he's the seiyuu! Count D's voice is a strange mix of charm, seduction, playfulness and yes, the danger I was
talking about. And damn, does Seki-sama nail them all. |

MUSIC |
: |
Just one word : haunting. I don't have the soundtrack so I ain't gonna recommend anything, but I thought the background music was done really nicely for the animation. |
